The Influence of German Expressionism on Modern Animation: Fusing Thesis Research and Independent Filmmaking
Thursday 23 October 2014, 4.30 – 6pm
Project Room, 50 George Square
This talk will explore the interconnections between my doctoral thesis research on Gothic silent films and German Expressionism and my own animation work. It will be illustrated by clips from silent era films as well as my own short films, funded by organizations such as IdeasTap London, the Arts Trust Scotland and the British Library and screened at various international film festivals. It will be accompanied by a small display of original animation characters and elements of sets and props.
Katherine Blakeney is a PhD candidate in Film Studies at the University of Edinburgh and an independent filmmaker with a small stop motion animation studio outside of Edinburgh.
