The Association des Membres de L’Ordre des Palmes Académiques in Scotland are organising a screening of the film Tous les matins du mode (Alain Corneau, 1991), which deals with the early career of the late seventeenth-century French composer and musician Marin Marais and his relationship with his teacher, Sainte-Colombe. The film is in French with English subtitles.
Dr John Kitchen, Reid School of Music, will give a brief introduction to the cultural context of the music used in the film; Prof. Marion Schmid, French, will give a brief presentation of the film in the context of modern French cinema.
The screening will take place at 10am on Saturday 14th March in the Screening Room, 50 George Square. Admission is free. To give us an idea of attendance, if you wish to attend please send an email indicating that to <philip.bennett@ed.ac.uk>
